a series of public experiments in conversation
PUBLIC MATTERS continues our critical engagement with discursive practices, gathering spaces and places, and conversation as art object with transformative potential.
PUBLIC MATTERS is a project by Public Recordings, an atelier that explores and shares choreographic experimentation through artistic research, performance creation, publication and education. This series explores exchange with others – both strangers and those we know well. By experimenting with and sharing performative strategies, we hope to invite encounters and unexpected findings. The projects of Public Recordings often appropriate then rework the recognizable apparatus of social encounters. If we unsettle and open up the way we habitually meet and talk together, what can be said?
For the first event in the series, we’ll use “relay interview,” a methodology for shared conversation developed by Jacob Wren (PME-ART). The structure allows for a conversation to emerge that is co-created by a group of people who trade off/sub in, sharing the responsibility for continuing the ongoing dialogue.
Rounds of the formal performance structure will be broken with breaks for informal conversation. Refreshments will be served.
