About The Artist

Toni Hafkenscheid’s current body of work, H0, derives its name from the technical name for model train set scale. His surreal works of saturated colour are photographed to look almost like their namesake miniature toy sets. They play with viewers’ perception, confusing the real with the artificial.

Born in 1959 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Toni Hafkenscheid received his MFA in photography in 1989 from the Rietveld Academy. The recipient of numerous Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council grants, his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and acquired by the Canadian Museum for Contemporary Photography, Canada Council Art Bank, Kodak France, Kodak Netherlands, as well by several noteworthy private collectors. He is represented by the Birch Libralato Gallery in Toronto.
