Gallery TPW is pleased to present the public launch of our 2010-2011 curatorial residency with cheyanne turions. A one-night screening, works in The Permanent Longing for Elsewhere use frustration to explore the ways that paradigms of nationalism are breaking down. Understanding displacement as a common, contemporary experience, these films attempt to articulate how one’s origins figure into a self-positioning that is constantly in flux. By linking the works in The Permanent Longing for Elsewhere, turions proposes the development of personal ethical systems that negotiate the translation of historical, economic and cultural politics.

Curator Biography

Recently relocating from Vancouver to Toronto, cheyanne turions is an independent writer, programmer and curator with formal training in philosophy. She is the director of No Reading After the Internet (Toronto), an out-loud reading and discussion group, and sits on the board of directors for Fillip magazine. cheyanne turions’s residency is a collaboration with the Images Festival and is supported in part by the Canada Council for the Arts: Assistance to Aboriginal Curators in Residence program.
